Mark Ingram Wins Heisman with Father Nearby

Alabama running back Mark Ingram narrowly edged out Stanford running back Toby Gerhart by a mere 28 points to win the 75th Heisman Trophy.  Competition was extremely stiff this year as voter favorites Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow turned in stellar seasons for Texas and Florida, respectively.  The  bruiser ran for over 1,700 yards and found himself in the endzone 26 times.  Surprisingly, it was the first Heisman Trophy for Alabama’s storied football program.

Ingram appeared a bit emotional as his name was called, wiping his eyes and taking a deep breath before he took the stage.

Also emotional was his father, former New York Giants Super Bowl hero Mark Ingram, Sr.  While he couldn’t make the presentation, he was close by.  Unfortunately it was in the confines of a New York City jail.  His father follows a long tradition of disgraced athletes with financial problems.  He currently awaits sentencing on money laundering and bank fraud charges.

One can only hope Junior learns from Dad’s mistakes and has a prosperous career on and off the field.
